Manners maketh Manhood!
New Manhood Boys Brigade Company, East Wittering
The 'manner' with which the UR Church in 'the Manhood' East Wittering, are endeavouring to make men out of boys is through a new Boys Brigade Company, called the 1st Manhood Brigade, incorporating opportunities for both boys and girls from the age of 5.
Assisting the Minister John Gunning with this work are Elders Bruce and Ann Barker (left in picture) who is also the secretary. A while ago Bruce and Ann spent a short period in the USA , returning with a direct 'word from the Lord,' where it was prophesied over them that the Lord had, 'disconnected them to re-connect them.' On their return to the UK they assisted at Bosham URC church which property was subsequently sold and the money used to build a new URC church at East Wittering to meet the needs of the communities, spirit, soul and body.
An 'Open Evening' on the 12th October 2009, was held to announce the plan to start a Boys Brigade in East Wittering. Sophie Zephirin, representing the national Boys Brigade movement spoke clearly about the aims and objectives of the project and how the `Boys Brigade' has adapted successfully to meet the challenging and changing world of young people. Georgie Scears (dressed in blue,) a full-time Mum of two, is fully qualified to lead the Brigade and specialises in climbing, abseiling, kayaking, mountain biking and hill walking. She has been wanting this opportunity for a long time.
Bruce Barker said “The Lord really has a strategy for this congregation which is being fulfilled with the right people, in the right place, at the right time. “
The Brigade will begin on 1st Jan 2010 after a vigorous advertising campaign around the Manhood. The area derived its name, 'Manhood,' so I am told, from the historical nature of the area which was all woodland once called 'Man Wood.' For more information call Georgie on 01243 672289.
